Another concern I heard from some residents was that the Building Inspectors were either too aggressive or missed major problems. One man said he moved out because of the building department.
Our own experience moving in was that the Building Department missed major systems damage and structurally unsound flooring in one room.

In our house the ordinance that requires basement ceilings to have drywall or wet plaster over all the piping actually contributed to the structural problem and allowed the problem to be hidden.
